  • 13 April 2009 - The extended maintenance/update has officially ended, at the same time as IMSLP now has 28,000 scores! While this update (which brings the backend to version 0.9) fixes a few bugs and requests, its main purpose is the merging of the International Music Database Project (IMDBP) back into IMSLP. After careful consideration, I believe that the benefits of IMDBP do not outweigh the drawbacks of additional administrative and janitorial overhead and the inconvenience to contributors. Rather, features will be added directly to IMSLP going forward. All information on the IMDBP work pages have been moved to IMSLP (including section listings, publishing history, comments, etc.), however, if you have any information on IMDBP that is not on a work page and that you want to keep, please move the information out as soon as possible. IMDBP will go offline sometime on April 22, 2009. As usual, report all bugs to the forums.
  • 27 February 2009 - I will take the liberty of quoting this wonderful news from the e-mail I just received: "Your learning material, 'International Music Score Library Project,' has been selected by the MERLOT Music Editorial Board as a winner of the MERLOT Award for Exemplary Online Learning Resources - MERLOT Classics 2009." As a result of this, IMSLP is invited to the awards ceremony which will be held at San Jose during the MERLOT International Conference, which takes place August 13-16. We will also get a chance to make a 30 minute presentation of and about IMSLP, so please put any ideas you have on the forum thread. I expect that the public will be allowed access to this Conference, so if anyone here wants to attend, then that would be wonderful. Congratulations everyone, this is our first major award!

If you have released your music to the IMSLP/Petrucci Music Library under a non-commercial Creative Commons Licences, the SMA may be violating your copyright; please contact the site.
  • December 1 - 23,000 scores, less than a month from the previous milestone!
  • November 15 - The bh2000 archive has been completely uploaded to the Petrucci Music Library, completing another important project.
  • November 27 - The IMSLP wishes all users a happy Thanksgiving!
  • November 3 - The first and most important project of the Petrucci Music Library is now finally completed: the Bach-Gesellschaft Ausgabe has completely been sorted and uploaded, apart from a few pages missing. Thanks to all contributors!
  • November 6 - 22,000 scores online
  • October 6 - Kudos to everyone, we've now reached 21,000 scores and we keep going!! :D
  • September 2 - The 20000th score was uploaded to IMSLP
  • July 18 - IMSLP was recommended as a favourite link in Swiss Radio DRS 2. Here you can hear the broadcasting, where conductor and journalist David Schwarb is speaking about our project.
  • July 9 - We welcome 3 new translations (Catalan, Danish, Korean). A translation version checker will be implemented - all translators please check IMSLP:Internationalization.
  • July 9 - A new advertising system is up; for an explanation of the reason behind its existence, please read this forum post.
  • July 8 - The score counter is corrected and updated, counting at 17000. Around 1000 scores have been submitted after the reopening.
  • June 30 - The IMSLP has reopened! Read the IMSLP reopening open letter here.
    • If you get "corrupted" downloads using IE6 or IE7, please clear your browser cache and try again, or use a different browser (e.g. Firefox or Opera). The problem is due to a bug in IE that cannot be solved on our part. (Detailed article on this issue)
  • 21 June 2008 - Three major pieces of news today. Firstly, we have surpassed 10000 work pages! And IMSLP gets a new name on the same day as that achievement. IMSLP will from today be also known as the Petrucci Music Library, as the change in the title of the main page shows. This is not a rename; "IMSLP" will still be used, but at long last we have an alternate name that is actually pronouncable, which should be a very welcome change :) The third piece of news is that it is confirmed (again) that IMSLP will be coming back online on the morning of Saturday, June 28th, 30-60 minutes after I wake up.
  • 5 June 2008 - As the day draws near, I have written a summary of the major changes to be expected in IMSLP v1.0 before the resurrection, which will be implemented via a massive wiki upgrade hopefully soon (I have all the code ready, the problem now is final testing and deployment). Admins: please send me any and all comments you have about this upgrade.
  • 12 April 2008 - IMSLP will be down for a very short maintenance sometime next week (or tomorrow if I find time). There will be a small wiki upgrade, the main change being the adding of "permission granted" checkboxes in the copyright tagger to tag files that are not public domain, but the copyright owner of which granted permission.
  • 17 February 2008 - Three days in and IMSLP v0.7.2 is up :) This release consists mainly of many bug fixes, major performance improvements (for the ctag system), and a new and shiny tag counter. As usual, report all abnormal behaviour to me. (And yes, now you can actually submit files again :)
  • 14 February 2008 - IMSLP v0.7.1 is up. Main changes include Urtext tagging within the tagging system itself, and the addition of test links to Amazon and SheetMusicPlus (the SMP part is currently disabled because their search function is too horrifically designed to implement yet). Again, please do tell me if anything has gone wrong (this is again a rather extensive update). In fact, I think I hate the colour of the links already (do suggest a better RGB colour if you know of one; I'm horrible with colours).
  • The reason the links are there would be best explained by a status update. As those of you who are in IMSLP's IRC channel already know, IMSLP will be initially for-profit rather than non-profit. This is due to the fact that starting IMSLP non-profit would very likely not cover all the costs (both known and unknown) associated with IMSLP revival. However, the plan is to start the non-profit incorporation process on or before IMSLP revival (the incorporation process itself may take up to a year), while having IMSLP temporarily be for-profit in order to jump-start the non-profit organization. The situation should clear itself up on IMSLP revival, which is also hopefully going to happen soon (but don't tell anyone outside of this wiki about this).
  • 10 February 2008 - IMSLP v0.7 is up! Major changes in this version include the new file template skin, mostly backend improvements to file submission and copyright reviewing. The change for this version is rather extensive, so please report any abnormalities or bugs to me :)
  • 5 February 2008 - I will be uploading a new version of IMSLP in the next few days (perhaps the weekend), so the site may be temporarily down for a few minutes during this time.
  • 22 January 2008 - The roadmap for the revival of IMSLP has been set. Like all good things, this may take a while, but we will persevere. The revival of IMSLP involves the incorporation of a non-profit IMSLP Foundation (exact name not decided yet, though we do have one in mind; do feel free to suggest one if you think of any) in the US. Because of this, help on the following points would be much welcome:
  1. Files public domain in Canada but not the US do not need to be removed; however, accurate tagging of US public domain status is crucial. This especially goes for files tagged "Verified" or "Checked" prior to the splitting of the copyright tag into three jurisdictions; these files are currently tagged V/U/U (Verified/Unknown/Unknown) or C/U/U by default.
  2. I welcome any and all help with either non-profit incorporation (in the US and Canada) or non-profit corporate maintenance (taxes, accounting, etc) offered, or even just any suggestions or words of wisdom (preferably from prior experience). Any help with obtaining charity status is also very welcome.
  • In other news, I finally won the battle with my laptop (who wants to retire), and will be uploading IMSLP v0.7 soon, most notably with the newly designed multi-file template :) Had finished it before Christmas, but never got a chance to upload it.
  • 1 January 2008 - Happy new year! This year will be very prosperous, as no less than 14 composers, including Gershwin, Ravel and Sibelius enter public domain this year.
  • 15 October 2007 - IMSLP now has more than 15000 files, 9100 works, and 1000 composers! :) A big thanks to all IMSLP contributors! P.S. IMSLP will be down for an extended maintenance on Thursday night. :)
  • 30 September 2007 - Upgrade complete, forum thread here.
  • 25 September 2007 - A few pieces of news today. First of all, we now have more than 14000 files! Also, IMSLP is currently looking for people willing to do copyright reviewing; please see this thread. And last, but not least, IMSLP will be down for (hopefully) less than 30 minutes on Saturday for the major upgrade.
  • 11 September 2007 - As reported a few weeks ago, there is a collaboration between IMSLP and Piano Society starting. Finally, everything is set up and ready to go! All IMSLP and Piano Society contributors are invited to help with the initial linking process. Please see the project page for more information!
  • 9 September 2007 - The maintenance was actually finished last night, so there will be no downtime today. The maintenance was for the updating of IMSLP to v0.3 (forum thread here). In other news, IMSLP now has 13000+ files! :)
  • 8 September 2007 - IMSLP will be down for maintenance for approximately 10-15 minutes sometime tomorrow (probably around 4-5pm UTC).
  • 25 August 2007 - The maintenance was finished successfully. The site should feel somewhat faster, with a few nasty bugs fixed. The other news is that IMSLP now has 12000+ files! We also have the beginnings of a publisher template, with the promise of much saved labor with better formatting to boot. Thanks goes to Jujimufu for the idea!
  • 24 August 2007 - There will be a rather extended maintenance of the IMSLP server throughout most of today, possibly beginning as early as 16:00 UTC. This maintenance is necessary for performance enhancements, as well as some bug fixing. It is known that there will be some breakage of functionality due to configuration changes, and all users are encouraged to report abnormalities to the forums after IMSLP comes back up. The breakages will be fixed as soon as possible.
  • 23 August 2007 - As per suggestions on the forum, IMSLP has decided to collaborate with Piano Society, one of the largest sites offering free recordings of music for download. All signs point to a fruitful relationship between the two sites, offering great benefits to the users of both sites. Due to this collaboration, there will be changes to Composer pages and Work pages in the next few weeks, with added fields providing a way to link from IMSLP to the Piano Society. IMSLP users are greatly encouraged to help with the initial linking process when the technical aspects (i.e. the fields) are implemented. So keep your eyes peeled!
  • 7 August 2007 - 11000+ files! Also, IMSLP v0.2 was released a few days ago, with several new features. Forum thread here.
  • 19 July 2007 - IMSLP now has more than 10000 files! And this is less than one and a half years since IMSLP first came online. Celebratory thread here; Gratitude song here!
  • 4 July 2007 - IMSLP has now more than 9000 files! At such speed, soon all the public domain scores of the World will have been uploaded!
  • 20 June 2007 - Another milestone... 8000 files :) That's 1000 files in less than two weeks. Impressive!
  • 17 June 2007 - The IMSLP work page copyright auto-tagger is up and running; its manual page can be found here. Please report any wrongful tagging that shows up in the next few days (not all pages are immediately auto-tagged due to caching, and the cache is retained for a maximum of 3 days).
  • 12 June 2007 - The forums are down for maintenance; should be back up in 1-2 days. Update: The forums are back up after maintenance.
  • 9 June 2007 - IMSLP is currently having some issues with file downloads, which is being sorted out. Update: This problem should be solved.
  • 7 June 2007 - IMSLP has today passed the 7000 files milestone, only 2.5 weeks after the 6000 files milestone! A pat on the back to all IMSLP contributors :)
  • 22 May 2007 - Two rather big milestones happened today. First, there are now 6000 files on IMSLP, and this is in less than 1.5 months after the 5000 files milestone, which means we are speeding up! The other major milestone is the new Main Page that you are looking at right now, a long awaited facelift. A big thanks goes to Leonard for this great design!
  • 10 April 2007 - IMSLP now has more than 5000 files! And again this is less than two months after the last milestone! A pat on the back to all the IMSLP contributors :)
  • [Archived since the issue is fixed. If you prefer, move the milestone to current, but maybe we should wait for the 6000th file instead.]
  • 26/02/2007 - IMSLP now has more than 4000 files! And this is less than two months after IMSLP reached the 3000 files milestone :) Also, I've fixed a little bug which would make some category pages function abnormally for users not logged in. Please report if you find something else that might be a bug on the site!
  • 16/05/2007 - Due to a mistake on my part yesterday, some of the larger files point to invalid addresses, and cannot be downloaded. This has been fixed, but the fix will need up to 24 hours to take effect. However, you can try clearing your DNS cache (see instructions here), which may fix it (for you) sooner. On a happier note, there are now more than 6000 submissions! Not quite 6000 files because some have been removed, but impressive nonetheless :)
  • 24/02/2007 - IMSLP index number search added to sidebar :) This should be convenient for anyone trying to find which page a particular IMSLP indexed file is on.
  • 23/02/2007 - I've received a few e-mails recently saying that PDF files downloaded from IMSLP do not open. If you are having similar issues, please visit this thread. Thanks!
  • 21/02/2007 - Apparently, there was a little oversight on my part yesterday; I turned on the whole page cache, forgetting that IMSLP generates pages dynamically based on language. Thus, turning on the cache meant that the pages will all be in different languages (depending on who visited the page first after turning the cache on). This only affected not logged-in users, which is why I did not notice. However, I have now fixed this oversight, and everything should work as usual :) Sorry for the problems!
  • 16/02/2007 - IMSLP turns one year old! Celebratory thread here :)
  • 08/02/2007 - There was a downtime of around 30 minutes due to problems on the host's end (see here), but that should be sorted out now.
  • 01/02/2007 - Just finished maintenance of database (should be the last downtime necessary for a *long* while). Continue doing what you were doing before the downtime :)
  • 31/01/2007 - Update: Finally everything is back to normal... sorry for the downtime! A few unexpected bugs showed up in the server software I was using and I had to switch. Everything should work fine now.
  • 31/01/2007 - Finally, IMSLP is on a dedicated server :)
  • 25/01/2007 - It has been brought to my attention that the website might have been quite slow as of late due to an increasing amount of traffic. Please visit this thread for more information. Also, a rating system has been established for files :) Should be fairly self-explanatory.
  • 21/01/2007 - After struggling with PHP for two hours IFLANG finally works correctly nested now :). Everything should be back to normal.
  • 21/01/2007 - I'm currently fixing the nesting IFLANG bug, so there might be times when the wiki page seems blank (apparently it still doesn't work right yet...). Sorry!
  • 12/01/2007 - The deletion of pages or files is now simplified with a template. See the help page for details.
  • 06/01/2007 - Congratulations to everyone, we've reached 3,000 submissions, in just two months after reaching the milestone of 2,000 submissions! This means an average of about 17 uploads per day, which is an amazing number of submissions!! Congratulations to everyone, and let's keep up the good work (sorry, I couldn't resist the enthusiasm!!! =D -jujimufu )
  • 04/01/2007 - Thumbnails and preview samples of scores can now be displayed in the file description box. See Score submission guide for more details. Also, a new special page, the Transform Composer Category page has been created to transform non-template based composer category pages to new template-based ones to facilitate translation.
  • 03/01/2007 - IMSLP is now fully and automatically multilingual to the extent of the Mediawiki software itself. Anonymous users will have automatic language detection and language selection on the signup page. Already registered users, however, will need to manually change their preferences (the "my preferences" link on the top of the page) if another language is desired.
  • 31/12/2006 - I've finished a little upgrade to the file submission system, which you'll see the next time you submit a file ;) Also, a Happy New Year to everyone from your IMSLP admin :)
  • 29/12/2006 - Finally, after a few hours of struggling with nonexistent PHP CLIs and what not, IMSLP is back online with Mediawiki 1.8.2! I will be testing to see if I broke anything, but will not take IMSLP offline again, so go on doing whatever you were doing before the downtime :)
  • 28/12/2006 - The IMSLP site will be down for upgrades (and new features!) in 2 hours at 3:00AM GMT. The outage should not last for long :)
  • 27/12/2006 - Nomination thread for featured score status now up. Go to this thread and post your favorite IMSLP score!
  • 09/12/2006 - On the Current events page, users can maintain a scanning queue.
  • 06/12/2006 - Due to a mistake on my part, Bach scores may have shown up as negatives for the last few hours. This problem is now fixed.
  • 11/11/2006 - You may experience technical difficulties with the website from time to time. Please see forum topic for more information.
  • 10/11/2006 - New tagging templates should prevent copyright confusion. See Public Domain for more information.
  • 04/11/2006 - IMSLP has reached the 2000 submits milestone! A big thanks goes out to all IMSLP contributors.
  • 26/10/2006 - The Spanish translation of IMSLP has started! If you are interested in translating IMSLP to another language, please visit the internationalization page.
  • 16/2/2006 - IMSLP is finally online!
