The Society for the Publication of American Music operated from 1919 until 1969. Its aim was to publish works by contemporary American composers. The works were distributed to individual subscribers and university libraries. Only one or two works were chosen each year.
Its aims were similar to those of Composers' Music Corporation (1919-), Wa-Wan Press (1901-1912), and the Cos Cob Press (1929-38).
Typical composers were David Stanley Smith, Leo Sowerby, Howard Boatwright, Jacob Druckman, Daniel Gregory Mason, Mel Powell and Quincy Porter.
