Misc. Comments

Date of composition often given as 1888. As Rudolph Nováček was up to opus 40 as early as 1891 (and opus 81 8 years later), this might even have been published as early as then, with the 1905 version not the first. Performed by Taffanel's ensemble around the 1880s according to a book on that composer/conductor (if I read right...), so yes, composed then, not in the 1900s. (Czech Wikipedia (for Nováček) also gives 1888.)
