Sicilienne in E-flat major (Paradis, Maria Theresia von)

Ambox notice.pngAccording to Grove Music, this is spurious, and possibly composed by violinist Samuel Dushkin (1891-1976), based on Weber's Romanze from Violin Sonata Op.10, No.1.

Misc. Comments

  • Anyone comparing this Sicilienne with Weber's Romanze (from Violin Sonata Op.10, No.1) will quickly realize that these are completely different pieces and bear no resemblance to each other, except perhaps for the 6/8 meter. However, the harmonic style refers to a modern/romantic idiom incompatible with classical language. Hence, that charming piece should be put on the same shelf as Pugnani's Prelude & Allegro (Fritz Kreisler), Albinoni's Adagio (Remo Ghiazotto) or Caccini's Ave Maria (Vladimir Vavilov).
