History

Vienna-based music and art publisher and dealer, founded by Joseph Eder (1760-1835) in 1789, who started publishing music from 1794. Ignaz Sauer joined in 1796 for 2 years before leaving to set up his own business. In 1811, Eder's son-in-law Jeremias Bermann (1770-1855) joined the firm, taking it over in 1816; after 1828 they published very little music, and in 1836 the name was changed to J. Bermann & Sohn. Jeremias' son Josef Bermann (1810-1886) took over the firm in 1847.
