Navigation etc.

  • After (title after/inspired by) Charles Dickens' poem "The Ivy Green" (from Pickwick Papers, 1837).
  • The version at LoC is "composed and arranged for piano" with the strong implication that the original version was otherwise (which could be of course guitar, orchestral, piano 4-hands, various choices.)
  • Given the publication date of 1844 for the arrangement, whatever it was from was written in or before 1844. At that time he was only 20 years old. None of his larger works seem to have been written then, so the assumption is that the waltz is a stand-alone piece, but arranged from a different instrumentation, perhaps orchestral. For the time being, this is tagged as a waltz with undetermined instrumentation. The tags can be changed if the earlier version is found.
