BMI Canada

Publisher which existed in Canada.

BMI Canada was founded in October 1940 as an affiliate of Broadcast Music, Inc. by that US company and Canadian radio stations. BMI Canada had a Board of Directors with three representatives from the CBC and three from the Canadian Association of Broadcasters. Until 1947, the organization served mostly to license the US-based BMI's repertoire in Canada.

In 1947, BMI Canada began to accept affiliates as a performing rights organization in its own right. It also launched its own publishing division at the same time. The publishing division was sold to Berandol in 1969.
