Current/ongoing projects

  • Improving quality of workpage metadata: updating work info fields to align with current practice, fixing typos, etc. This is an ongoing, occasional maintenance effort on my part.
  • Modernizing a few composer "list of works" pages to match current guidelines.
  • Improving coverage of first editions for some works of interest to me, especially for works that only have a first edition reprint.

Past projects

Domenico Scarlatti workpage improvements

  • Added initial list of works page.
  • Refreshed all keyboard sonata workpages to list every relevant catalogue number currently tracked by IMSLP.
  • Completed splitting of Longo's edition, ensuring all 545 sonatas in that edition have individual PDFs posted to sonata workpages.
  • Posted some important early editions of Scarlatti sonatas that are sourced from catalogues and urtext editions, including the Roseingrave edition and three volumes published by Boivin and Le Clerc.
  • Created collection templates for the massive Venezia and Parma manuscript collections, to more easily enable future work at splitting those manuscripts.
  • Following the lead from a note in Christopher Hail's collections document, I confirmed that Vol.3, No.8 from Pièces pour le clavecin was mis-attributed to Scarlatti. Instead, it should have been attributed to Galuppi, since it matches the 3rd movement of Sonata No.1 from the Walsh Op.1 collection. This discovery led to some followup work to post the complete Op.1 collection, splitting the relevant Galuppi sonata to its own workpage (Harpsichord Sonata in C major, I.30), and splitting the mis-attributed sonata (movement) to that page.

Bartók list of works and early editions

Most of Bartók's works had workpages, but I was motivated to find more first (or early) editions to supplement existing reprints. Mostly I focused on works featuring piano. Also, due to the complexity of the multiple catalogues of Bartók's works (including the multiple-times restarted opus number sequence), I found it an interesting exercise to refresh the list of works page, sourcing the effort from Wikipedia, the Ujfalussy biography, and the Bartók Archives website. In the coming years and decades, more data will be available to refresh these pages, since the full BB catalogue is yet to be finalized -- or perhaps it is finalized but not yet officially published? --- and the Henle complete urtext edition is a work in progress.

Fauré first editions

Reprints of first editions of Fauré's piano works were available on IMSLP for many years, but I was not satisfied with scan quality for several of them. After finding first editions for many of these works, now most of Fauré's piano works have first editions available with (IMO) improved scan quality in many cases. Later, I focused posting first editions for some of Fauré's chamber works, songs, and song cycles.

Gounod list of works

Seeing that this composer's list of works was "under construction" and had stagnated for several years, I took a look at improving the page. It ended up being a pretty arduous task, mostly given the complexity of the catalogue. In the process, I found some new Gounod scores (and collections) to upload to supplement what was already available. The Gounod list of works is still a work in progress, but it is more approachable now and can be more easily iterated on for future improvements. For example, it could be converted to a giant, sortable wikitable, but that might make the page cumbersome to peruse. If a table is appropriate, I'm not sure how I would organize it, especially with respect to the catalogued arrangements.

J.S. Bach manuscript coverage

I helped improve coverage of J.S. Bach manuscripts, so far just for the Inventions and Sinfonias. The table below lists the manuscripts currently available on IMSLP and several others that would be nice to add in the future. Many of these manuscript sources are linked from the Inventions and Sinfonias Bach Digital landing page and the listed subpages.

Earliest contributions

  • Sanity checked external "scanner" links to SLUB scores. These links should redirect successfully to a web viewer of the score. To carry out the sanity checks, I used a Python script to detect the affected work pages using the mediawiki API. The script had the user-agent header "imslp-query/0.0.1 (User:Pnorcks)". Actual edits were made in-browser.
  • Updated the Witvogel publisher page to transclude the list of published works.
  • Uploaded a few more Witvogel editions not yet available on IMSLP.
  • Uploaded my first scan, the Witvogel edition of Scarlatti's Essercizi per gravicembalo with the alternate title "XXX Sonate per il Clavicembalo solo" ("30 Sonatas for solo Harpsichord").
