Misc. Comments
For Whit Sunday.
Commentary on the movements
- Duetto (Soprano, Bass): Wer mich liebet, der wird mein Wort halten. This setting proves Bach “to be a master even in limitation”1. Derived from brief motives, this duet is highly concentrated in material but very beautiful.
- Recitativo (Soprano): O, was sind das vor Ehren. Recitative with string accompaniment.
- Chorale: Komm, Heiliger Geist, Herre Gott. A plain chorale setting.
- Aria (Bass): Die Welt mit allen Königreichen. An aria in Bar form with obbligato violin. At the end of the bass part, there is marked Choral Segue, a confusing remark that may explain the “missing” movement.
