Misc. Comments
For the 5th Sunday after Easter (Rogation Sunday).
The editors of the BGA here picked a cantata to place right after BWV 85 that is hilariously similar, structurally. However, the similarities are coincidental.
Commentary on the movements
- [Solo] (Bass): Wahrlich, wahrlich, ich sage euch. Every line here is "decidedly vocal in conception"1. The beautiful opening melody is here treated contrapuntally.
- Aria (Alto): Ich will doch wohl Rosen brechen. A slightly empty-headed virtuoso violin part is the accompaniment to another highly melodic vocal line.
- Choral (Soprano): Und was der ewig gütig Gott. The tune here is Kommt herr zu mir, spricht Gottes Sohn (Grunwald, 1530).
- Recitativo (Tenor): Gott macht es nicht gleichwie die Welt. Secco recitative.
- Aria (Tenor): Gott hilft gewiß. A highly rhythmic and motivic aria for strings and tenor.
- Choral: Die Hoffnung wart' der rechten Zeit. A plain chorale setting (this is the 11th verse of Es ist das Heil uns kommen her (Speratus, 1523)1).
