Misc. Comments
- According to WorldCat, this was originally from the violin sonatas, Book I no.11. The Peters edition says "freely arranged" by P. Klengel. There is no evidence that Eccles had anything to do with the viola arrangement, though it is widely known in this form. Accordingly, this is tagged for violin, not viola. Also, it is not known whether the Mutopia re-arrangement back to violin is accurate compared to the original, since "freely arranged" could include transposition to a lower key.
- It gets worse. According to Grove, Eccles was living in Paris (having moved there from London) by 1720, when he published the set of 12 violin sonatas. However, 18 of the movements of these sonatas are taken from 12 Allettamenti da Camera, Op.8, by Giuseppe Valentini, with another movement taken from 10 Inventions, Op.10, by Francesco Antonio Bonporti according to Grove. So who knows if this piece is even by Eccles? Carolus 19:46, 20 June 2012 (EDT)
