According to Gerhard Heldt, Das deutsche nachromantische Violinkonzert..., Ernest wrote two violin concertos of which this is the first.

Premiere(?): Signale für die musikalische Welt, 67. Jährg. No. 8, p.300 (1909) reports on an English concert in which the composer (resident in England at the time, if I read correctly) conducted this concerto (and Wessely played violin). This took place in "Sydenham Conservatory".
