The information in the editor's Foreword is very similar to that of the Wikipedia article, which is not surprising considering not much is known or was known in his heyday (Mendelssohn had never heard of him), of this last member of the Bach line. Unfortunately, the editor does not tell us what the sources of this particular work are, asserting vaguely that "hardly anything is known of his compositions" other than a cantata Die Nymphen der Weser (1788), also cited with some discrepancies here, but the latter article does succeed in unearthing a fair number of other obscure works by this last of the Bachs.
