Navigation etc.

  • Grove Music has the title as "Fra questi", not "Tra questi".
  • Grove Music lists this for single oboe and violin. However, there are 6 lines, and the 3 instrumental lines are specified as "Violini & Hautbois", with 2 G clefs and a C3 (alto) clef. This would imply oboe, violin, and viola. However, on p.10 it says "senza Haut" where all 3 instrumental lines have notes on them, implying more than 2 strings, but at that point, they are all playing unison. Unlike other Conti cantatas that specify violins but use alto clef that never goes below G below middle C (thus could be for 2 violins, not violin and viola), this alto clef part goes below the lowest note on the violin on p.34, so it requires a viola player.
  • "Violini e Hautbois" refers to the top two lines - it means "Violins and Oboes". One oboe doubles the section of violins 1, and the second doubles the violins 2. The line with the alto clef is obviously a viola part. TW.
