Extra Information From Wikipedia: Suk created the first version in 1919 in a war-related competition, then expanded it and submitted it to another competition under the pseudonym Josef Emanuel Skrýšovská. This was withdrawn by the composer. The final version (Op.35c) was first performed in concert Czech Philharmonic, December 3, 1931 and "won a silver medal in the artistic competition at the Olympic Games in Los Angeles". Sokol (Falcon) was a Czech gymnastic cum nationalist movement started in 1862. It was similar to the German and German-American. Turners of the early 19th century, founded by Friedrich Ludwig Jahn. Also: "Petr Křička first composed the verses for a trio, he proceeded to write the lyrics for other parts of the composition only later, and the necessary musical adjustments for that purpose were made by the poet's brother Jaroslav with Suk's approval ."
