It is still possible that Beethoven really did write a Symphony in C closely modeled on Haydn's 97th before his own official No. 1, but this is now lost. The Jena Symphony, discovered by Fritz Stein in 1911, had enough "Beethovenisms" to convince Stein that it was in fact by Beethoven, but others had doubts. It wasn't until later that Friedrich Witt's authorship was discovered. Alonso del Arte 01:11, 23 November 2011 (UTC)
