Op.174

is described as lost. Could it be the same as the Albumblätter: drei präludienartige Stücke für Piano opus 174 in the Munich/BSB catalog? They haven't scanned them in to their digital catalog so they'd have to be viewed onsite I guess or by someone with a password there. Eric 11:59, 27 March 2011 (UTC)

It was probably a mistake in publishing the opus numbers, since Op.175 is the Albumblätter. I'm not absolutely sure though, that perhaps the Musikal Bilderbuch may be the same thing. --Lisztrachmaninovfan 21:50, 27 March 2011 (UTC)

Also, what are our criteria for lost? items that are not in worldcat-covered libraries may be in: Worldcat-not-covered libraries (very many) or in private collections (very very many). I suppose at issue is the implication of lost as never-t'will see the light of day again! (which alas is probably true of some items I can think of, and a reason I am glad of scanning projects like these which spread works around instead of keeping them in one place. too many pieces lost forever that way, I find out. anyhow, I digress.) Our criteria is Worldcat. Yes, it is not so reliable, but don't forget that a very large amount of Baumfelder works were destroyed in World War II. Someone may need to mention that is our "lost" criteria. --Lisztrachmaninovfan 05:36, 15 April 2011 (UTC)

Another thing: lost just means the work was destroyed or whereabouts are unknown. In this case, the whereabouts are unknown, so it is lost until that is confirmed. But again, it may need to be further explained. --Lisztrachmaninovfan 05:39, 15 April 2011 (UTC)

Hrm. Re the präludienartige stücke, I think they are opus 174 (Worldcat search shows "präludienartige Baumfelder" --> op.174, HMB 1869 page 50 has opus 174... hrm. Who has opus 175 :) (scores getting published with two different opus numbers isn't unknown, anyway, to make things complicated...) Eric 03:02, 7 December 2011 (UTC)

if like me one uses HMB (whether the original at ONB or the database at RHUL) to work up a worklist, note that many compositions by Baumfelder are listed as being by Fr. Baumfelder. In 1874, the opus 1 by Fritz Baumfelder was published. As with some similar cases (Rudolf and Robert Radecke, e.g. ...) the ambiguity of abbreviated names, together with the fact that HMB always contains reprints, contains the possibility of some confusion here ... less so here with the many years' gap, but still some.
