Linder's Deutsche Weisen Collection

This discussion was moved here from User_talk:Kdkeller.

Hello KdKeller, Carolus (the copyright person) here. It appears you've posted a few items from August Linder's collection of German folksongs, Deutsche Weisen which was first published in 1953 by Lausch und Zweigle (240 pages, plate #L. 30 Z.) and later in an expanded edition by A. Auer (271 pages, plate #A. 30 A.). Linder was born in 1929 and may still be alive. Do you happen to know if 1) Linder actually created the piano arrangements of the songs; and 2) if collections of this nature are subject to a limited term under German copyright law instead of the customary life plus 70 years? Thanks, Carolus 02:38, 16 May 2007 (EDT)

Hello Carolus, thanks for you request. First I want to give you the little details I know (source: the book itself).
  • Deutsche Weisen, editor August Linder, Albert Auer's Musikverlag Stuttgart, cover (there's no date in the whole book)
As my grandfather got this book a few years after World War I, it is impossible that August Linder, the editor, was born in 1929. The editor of the collection from 1953 was Willy Schneider. I have this information from eBay. Now the answers to your questions:
1) Yes, I think August Linder created the piano arrangements of the folk songs.
2) There's no limited term of copyright for collections like this.
So the question is: When died August Linder? I have no answer, but there's another edition of the book from 1895 where Linder is mentioned as editor. So I think we can use the scans of the book, because Linder presumably died before 1937. Greetings! --Kdkeller 06:46, 16 May 2007 (EDT)
Actually, it is fine if Linder died before 1957, since Canada has the life + 50 year copyright term. :) --Feldmahler 14:07, 16 May 2007 (EDT)

Thanks for looking this up, KdKeller. WorldCat gives Linder as having been born in 1929, which is obviously the wrong Linder! The engraving looks like it's from around 1895, so I'm sure it's public domain worldwide. Carolus 03:08, 28 May 2007 (EDT)

Hello Wiki03, thanks for your answer. You wanted to know if I have scores of Heil dir im Siegerkranze with another melody from Hugo Kaun. I looked up my archive, but I didn't find another version. Sorry :-) But I uploaded the version of Heil dir im Siegerkranz (Carey, Henry). --Kdkeller 18:14, 25 July 2007 (EDT)
