I have an idea that there are two versions of "Das Klagende Lied", one of them (probably the revised version) considerably longer than the other - by something like 15 or 20 minutes. I can't name a source that states this, but I have a vague memory of having heard two different broadcasts of it years ago, and being surprised by the difference in duration.
Can anyone verify this, and do they know which version of the piece is on this site? Is there any chance that the other version might also appear on the site one day? M.J.E. 14:53, 2 October 2008 (EDT)
Take a look at the Wikipedia page for Das Klagende Lied- it was originally performed with movements 2 and 3 only; it looks like the first movement wasn't discovered until 1969! I'm familiar with the full, three-movement work, which makes more sense than just the last two movements. jh31425 4:45, 6 February 2009 (PST)
