Suite en valse, Op.39 (Dohnányi, Ernő)
|
It is unlikely that this work is public domain in the EU, or in any country where the copyright term is life-plus-70 years. However, it is in the public domain in Canada (where IMSLP is hosted) and other countries where the term is life-plus-50 years (like China, Japan, Korea and many others worldwide). As this work was first published before 1923 or failed to meet notice or renewal requirements to secure statutory copyright, it is almost certainly public domain in the USA as well. |

Misc. Comments
- A recording of this piece (same year as this edition or year after) played by Edward Kilenyi and Erno Dohnanyi can be found on YouTube.
This is the 2-piano version (according to some sources, transcription) of the 1943 Op.39 Suite en valse for orchestra (published 1946, premiered November 1943 with the composer conducting, in that form). (Shouldn't they have the same page? Or no?) - Schissel
- The 4th movement has on its last page : Neukirchen am Walde, 12th Feb. 1947. This is a two score edition for each movement, so a single file for each would probably be sufficient - Jurabe
- The YouTube is a rip of a recording available on a Pearl CD, 2001, and may well be taken down by them; I'd just get the CD, really. How do you mean single file? I meant, to have op.39a and op.39 on the same page (with op.39a under "arrangements and transcriptions // for 2 pianos "as op.39a") since one is a transcription of the other, and that's what we usually (with some exceptions) do for pieces that are essentially the same except for orchestration. (The different opus number may be the clincher here, but it depends.) - Schissel
- I wasn't questioning your proposal to place this version with the original orchestral one, which is very sound, just the fact that I realized (a little late !) that I could have saved time by scanning just one of the two identical scores in each volume 1, 2, 3 & 4. For performance having double copies is essential, but putting them on this page the same way is not : not doing so would avoid clutter, and the suggestion there might be a difference between Piano 1 and Piano 2. The only difference in this case is that some of the Piano 1 scores were annotated by an anonymous performer. Now had the latter been the composer who amended his own score, that would be a boon (1) ! As for the recording I haven't found it listed in the Pearl catalog. A useful discography of Ernő Dohnányi's compositions is maintained in the Hungarian Ernő Dohnányi archives - Jurabe
- Correct ! It's available via Amazon etc.... (1) Tongue in cheek remark : but who knows, it might have been ! - Jurabe
