  • A "new edition" of this work was released in 1857 (see Hofmeister's Monatsbericht (1857), p.18) so first published before then certainly. (by plate number more likely in the 1805–1809 range true.)-Schissel

Op.11 No.1? Op.11 seems to have had a few quartets in it- an "Op.11 No. II" is noted as having been published in "Zeitung für die elegante Welt Berlin", issue 16, 9 April 1805. An "Op.11 No. III" (Simrock) - published in 1805 (by an unspecified publisher?) (see the article for Op.14) is our "Quartet No.3, Op.14" in D. So Op.11 is a set of at least 3 quartets.

Opus numbers for Rode's works are notoriously unreliable, so (short of finding a list in the composer's own hand, or a thematic catalogue) it is best to use "Quartet No.1" instead. The first 3 were issued as a set (Op.11) by Boehme - Fynnjamin
