Title page clearly has cello as the designated instrument, with violin as the alternate. Grove lists "vn/vc, pf", putting the cello second. HMB has "Sonate p. Pfte et Violoncelle (ou Violon.)".

Like Alkan's cello sonata in the same key composed ca.1856, concludes in E minor (though Alkan's finale is a Presto tarantella.)

Also published by Lemoine in the same year. Publication noted in the Bibliographie de la France 1e série, 36e année (50e de la collection), Nº 33, 14 Août 1847, p.400, r.166.
