  • Re: the title: see Resonet in laudibus. As the title is from a 14th century carol and the opening of the Lassus is the same (more or less?) as that of the carol (see Wikipedia) (at least as printed in a 1582 source - of the carol, not of the Lassus) suggesting that this is not a coincidence, have also tagged as Carols. (Wikipedia: "and there are many variations and parodies in various sacred songbooks, as well as extended, embellished versions (for example motets by the Franco-Flemish composer Orlande de Lassus" ... -- etc.) - Schissel
  • For two reasons, the carols tag is removed again: 1) in a variations form, we don't tag the underlying theme, i.e. "variations on an air" is tagged "variations", not "air". Only the opening will be similar to the original, not the whole piece, and we tag for the whole. 2) This motet has three separate sections, of which Resonet is the first. Tagging the first part on its own would be like tagging an individual movement in a sonata, and we don't do that. Tagging is for the whole.
