The attribution to Buxtehude originates from a manuscript in New Haven, CT, Yale University, Music Library, where the work appears in an arrangement for organ ("Sonata â 2 Clavir Pedal"), even though the second stave is labelled "Viol d Gamb:" There, the composer is given as "Box de Hou".
