Carl Merseburger (1816-85) started the firm in 1849 in Weissenburg near Leipzig, and it stayed in the family for over 100 years, finally being taken over by Adolf Strube in 1965. After the second world war it moved to Berlin. It has published educational music, Protestant church music and periodicals (Euterpe 1851-1894, Der Kirchenmusiker 1950-)
