Misc. Comments

  • The 6 branles and Les Gavottes were assembled and arranged by Praetorius for his 1612 publication Terpsichore, Musarum Aoniarum. It is unknown if the composer intended them in this grouping or not.
  • Grove Music describes all of Caroubel's dances as "harmonizations"; thus, the tunes themselves are probably not Caroubel's. Further, Grove lists them as "a 5".
