Misc. Comments
Voicing
The voices are divided in six staves, but sometimes the female voices are further divided in Soprano 1 and 2 and Contralto 1 (mezzosoprano) and 2 (real contralto). However, in these two vocal parts divided, the differences are so small as not to add two more staves in the score.
History
La musica Mi Fa... is a song composed by Claudio Dall’Albero, starting out from an idea by Gregorio Mazzarese, with the aim of creating a bridge between classical music and the world of children. The composition has the traditional structure of a song, alternating verses and chorus. Commissioned in 2002 by the Academy of Santa Cecilia, it has been taught to school children in Rome who have joined the initiative. It was an experiment never tried before in Italy.
Instructions for use
All published material is free. Teachers interested in this project will be able to download the score for two voices and piano, and the song in mp3 format. The audio files are available in two versions:
- The first one, complete with vocal parts, allows you to learn the melodies;
- The second, purely instrumental version, can be used as a 'basis' for the kids to study and learn the song.
The verses are almost always for just one voice; only afterwards is it joined by the second voice, which continues throughout the chorus.
The song can also be enjoyed by adult audiences, whether as music, or as a way of gaining familiarity with the Italian language.
The score for six-voice choir can be performed by a professional choir or by a good amateur choir. The orchestral score, which can also be downloaded, has the same instrumentation as the recording of the audio files.
The orchestration can therefore be used not only for the polyphonic choral version for six voices but also for the two-voice version, as in the audio files.
You can request the orchestral parts directly from the composer at: md8168@mclink.it.
The words
Italian
I strofa
Scoprire tesori in terre lontane.
La musica solo può far la magia
Di far galoppare la mia fantasia.
English
Verse I
When I hear the singing of a sweet melody...
When I am moved by a song in a cartoon…
When a piano fills the air with harmony…
When the rhythm of percussion instruments is pressing
with a loop of ‘stappi-stù, stappi-stù’…
At that moment the music ‘mi fa’… ‘mi fa’… ‘mi fa’…
Verse II
When there’s a song that I wish wouldn’t end…
When in a concert there’s a great symphony…
When a flute plays scales, arpeggios and little flights…
When I hear bass and drums together
with a loop of ‘stappi-stù, stappi-stù’…
At that moment the music ‘mi fa’… ‘mi fa’… ‘mi fa’…
Refrain
Dreaming of being in an enchanted forest,
Flying with Goku in the starry sky,
Dancing in a dance of gnomes and wizards,
Giving little dragons lots of cuddles.
Riding on the back of a white centaur,
Playing football with a dinosaur,
Diving with Tarzan, with Chita and my dog,
Discovering treasures in distant lands.
Music alone can make the magic
To set my imagination galloping.
