• According to Grove Music, "Bizet adapted his [Iradier's] song El arreglito for the habanera in the first act of Carmen; apparently he thought it was a folksong. On learning his mistake – it had been published in a French translation, along with 24 other songs, in Iradier’s Fleurs d’Espagne (Paris, 1864) – he added a note in the vocal score of Carmen acknowledging the source."
• The precise original instrumentation isn't known, but via the following argument, voice and piano can probably be reasonably assumed: Grove Music gives the original publication date as Madrid, 1859. WorldCat shows a publication of it by the Madrid Unión Musical Española in a collection called Obras escogidas para canto y piano, though this probably wasn't the original, since the Madrid Unión Musical Española was established only in the 1890s. However, this company acquired several other Spanish publishing firms and would have become the new owner of all of those companies' publications. In addition, the second publication of the song, the Paris 1864 translation into French, was also for voice and piano.
