Kerstmis is the first of Benoit's religious tetralogy (the other parts being the Mass, Te Deum, and the Requiem). Benoit's manuscript identifies the soloist as a tenor but the published version merely states "solo," and Benoit's Oeuvrecatalogus does not give soprano as an option
