Misc. Comments

  • According to Grove Music, most of the contents of the Harmonice Musices Odhecaton are chansons, and although most of them (including this one) do not have text, the text would have either been known to the people of the time, or available elsewhere. There are a few pieces that may have been instrumental in origin. However, Grove Music lists this as vocal (under the title Si vous voullez (and classified as a bergerette), see below), as does RISM. Accordingly, this has been tagged as a song.
  • Canti B's Je vous empire (2nd edition; 1st edition: impire) may be a mangled je vous en prie. This piece occurs in other period sources as Se vous voulez and Je vous vous.
