Misc. Comments
For Jubilate (3rd Sunday after Easter).
Commentary on the movements
- Chorus: Ihr werdet weinen und heulen. The sparkling high recorder part here lends leavening to an otherwise very heavy choral fugue to fit the text. In the middle of the chorus, the bass soloist jumps in with a recitative (Ihr aber werdet traurig sein) with the full orchestra's accompaniment. The fugue then resumes and the chorus closes in much the same manner as it began.
- Recitativo (Tenor): Wer sollte nicht in Klagen untergehn. Secco recitative.
- Aria (Alto): Kein Arzt ist außer dir zu finden. Recorder again plays an important role as the obbligato instrument. The searching of the text is here fitted to "a very individual mode of chromaticism".
- Recitativo (Alto): Du wirst mich nach der Angst. Secco recitative.
- Aria (Tenor): Erholet euch, betrübte Sinnen. A trumpeter (presumably the recorder player as well) here joins the instrumental ensemble in this festive and hopeful aria.
- Choral: Ich hab dich einen Augenblick. A plain chorale setting.
