3 Volumes were planned, out of the not unusual fascination for ternary structures. A split-off from this initial design is the work entitled Triptych. The composer's numerous organ works are quite notably different in style from his piano compositions. While similar in terms of technical difficulties, his organ works are largely inspired by Bach's while Reger's influence, another notable inspiration, is less apparent. The textures of the pieces are not as "thick" as the latter's, as a rule, the music being more linear in its progression than vertical. This is not by design. It is by virtue (?) of a natural inclination. The distinction between Fantasias and Trios as a genre is therefore blurred, which is why the collection could have been named Trio-Fantasias, as if 3 different instruments were involved, on par, including the busy pedal-board. The second addition contains for no particular reason 4 pieces instead of his usual 3 and two versions of the first number, which was found at first to be rather short by the composer, who then proceeded to expand it with a middle contrasting section. The revised version opens the volume, the initial one closes it. Its no.3 piece is the only one of the whole 3-volume series with a title (The Splits), the reason for which is easily understood when considering the pedal part. The third and last book is again a triptych.
A retitling of the whole series was felt to be needed (8/28/2017), following up on the composition of the Harmonic Trio Sonata for Organ, whose style is very similar.
