Navigation etc.

The names of the pieces are I Elegie (g minor) II Intermezzo (E flat major) III Vallåt - Hirtenstück (d minor) IV Ausklang (E flat major). The piece III Vallåt - Hirtenstück is strongly influenced by traditional mountain and herding calls which were in use mountain cottages in Norway (seter) ans Sweden (fäbod). A herding call (vallåt) is a piece of music which is more a tool for herding the animals than real musical art. Several Scandinavian composers have taken strong impressions from these extremely old-fashioned tunes which often are in a very sad minor character.
