Misc. Comments
For the 13th Sunday after Trinity
Commentary on the movements
- Chorus: Du sollt Gott, deinen Herren, lieben. An animated, but solemn opening chorale arrangement. Free imitation abounds in a buoyant matter.
- Recitative (Bass): So muss es sein! Secco recitative.
- Aria (Soprano): Mein Gott, ich liebe dich von Herzen. Oboes in plaintive parallel thirds set the tone of this ardent movement.
- Recitative (Tenor): Gib mir dabei, mein Gott! ein Samariterherz. Recitative with string accompaniment.
- Aria (Alto): Ach, es bleibt in meiner Liebe. The trumpet is an outsider here, however it lends the movement a distinctive colour; it is surprising to hear how plaintive a trumpet can sound, even without valves and vibrato.
- Chorale: Herr, durch den Glauben wohn in mir. A plain chorale setting. The words appear to have been lost, but the melody was Ach Gott, vom Himmel sieh darein, and the incipit survives.
