Misc. Comments
For Misericordias Dominum (2nd Sunday after Easter).
Commentary on the movements
- Chorus: Du Hirte Israel, höre. A pastoral movement to fit the words, with an intense contrast between homophonic shouts and lengthy fugal sections.
- Recitativo (Tenor): Der höchste Hirte sorgt vor mich. Secco recitative.
- Aria (Tenor): Verbirgt mein Hirte sich zu lange. An aria with two obbligato oboes d'amore. The heavily imitative structure accommodates much tet painting here.
- Recitativo (Bass): Ja siese Wort ist meiner Seelen Speise. Secco recitative.
- Aria (Bass): Beglückte Herde, Jesu Schafe. Flowing 12/8 and many drones give this aria a special pastoral feel.
- Choral: Der Herr ist mein getreuer Hirt. A plain chorale setting (=Allein Gott in der Höh sei Ehr).
