Misc. Comments
The music was written by Haydn in 1797 for the anthem of Emperor Francis II of the Holy Roman Empire. The same year, Haydn used it for the 2nd movement of his String Quartet No.62 in C major, Op.76 No.3 (which is also known as Kaiserquartett). The tune, with varying words, was used for the national anthems of Austria-Hungary (until 1918), Austria (1929–1938), and Germany (after 1922).
