Misc. Comments
For Christmas Day.
Commentary on the movements
- Chorus: Christen, ätzet diesen Tag. A large-scale festive chorus, using the four trumpets (!) to great effect.
- Recitativo (Alto): O selger Tag! Recitative with string accompaniment.
- Aria (Soprano, Bo (Bass): Gott, du hast es wohl gefüget. An aria with obbligato oboe, which was replaced with organ in later (Leipzig) revivals.
- Recitativo (Tenor): So kehret sich nun heut. Secco recitative.
- Aria (Alto, Tenor): Ruft und fleht den Himmel an. A da capo duet aria using standard "duet" techniques.
- Recitativo (Basses): Verdoppelt euch demnach. Recitative with oboes and strings.
- Chorus: Höchster, schau in Gnaden an. Also highly festive, a movement finishing out the symmetry of this cantata.
