Birth Date

Ernst's birth date of 6 May 1814 is taken from Grove and German Wikipedia. English Wikipedia differs ("January, 1814") — P.davydov 04:22, 27 April 2009 (EDT)

Actually, English Wikipedia differs much further now - "June 8 1812?" - with source "M. W. Rowe, Heinrich Wilhelm Ernst: Virtuoso Violinist, Ashgate, 2008, p. x." - more recent and specific than 1980 Grove. Eric 15:38, 15 December 2010 (UTC)
Further note - Rowe's reasoning seems rather tendentious so no objection to reinstating 1814 - but a better reason should have been given than 'MusicSack', whose best source is the same 1980 Grove. It seems ridiculous to revert for a reason opposite to that in the preceding edit with no further explanation given. Generally speaking, more recent good scholarly sources trump less recent. Whether Rowe's is good seems open to question just offhand here, or at least just on this birthdate question, however, so, ... just a general ... whatever. Eric 09:15, 3 February 2011 (UTC)
2tq has replied on my talk page (why there? why not here?) thus:
--== Ernst's bithdate ==
The later suggested birthday is not possible. Ernst had a younger brother born on November 28 1814, according to archives in Brno (Elun, p. 8).
 Rowe's suggestion of 8 June 1812 is at least possible and he has reasoned. Therefor I see no reason to not write that until potential further research.

Given that, I agree with the decision to change it back to 1812 for now. Eric 20:37, 14 February 2011 (UTC)

Wait a minute...6 May 1814 is before 28 November 1814...why wouldn't that be possible? KGill talk email 20:53, 14 February 2011 (UTC)

Even though these may just be baptismal dates, not birthdates, and assuming - possibly incorrectly- that Ernst's younger brother was a full, not a half-brother etc., the gap should have been around 9 months at least, I am guessing... I think? Eric 21:04, 14 February 2011 (UTC)

You're right, I didn't think of that for some reason. Sorry for the interruption... KGill talk email 21:12, 14 February 2011 (UTC)

Boléro

I accidently forgot to indicate the opus of Boléro when I created the page. I then pressed the back botton one my browser to try to correct this, but instead another page was created. This was my fault. Since Ernst only wrote one composition named Boléro, the page without opus number should be deleted. Or else, I think it´s an unnecessary risk that it causes confusion. I don´t have the knowledge or even know if I have access to do this myself, and therefor ask if someone could delete this extra page.

Thank you all!

That one did seem odd. Though we could have moved the page without opus number so that it had one, too :) Anycase, it is now deleted. (though not by me.) Eric 12:24, 15 February 2011 (UTC)
