Miscellaneous information
- Mentioned as violist in "The American history and encyclopedia of music" (numerous co-authors), 1908, page 382, article on Jaques Hoffmann. (Indeed, he was apparently the violist of the Hoffmann Quartet as of 1902 when the quartet was founded, apparently.) Er, ohoh. Are we talking about the Boston Symphony Karl Rissland (born in Germany, Konigssee spec., then to US) or his nephew (born, died in US) who also worked with Stokowski (in the San Francisco Symphony) (Karl Ernest Rissland, 1894–1971 - non-PD-CA) - no way to know, I think...) - ouch! - info and bio of the latter here. Though since Karl Rissland's arrangements (both here and his others) have to do with stringed instruments mostly and his nephew was a wind player (trumpet mainly) this could mean it is the elder Rissland whose category we have here- maybe.
