Fortunato Riedel (? — fl.1784 ?)
- Detailed biography: None given
- Recordings: None given
- Very approximate date range from the estimated range of the Karlsruhe manuscript (RISM 453002456, flute sonata in G) by which his name is mostly known (relatively speaking).
However, this is a manuscript copy by someone else, so can't be used to estimate his date especially well. RISM-online has 3 works by Riedel or Fortunato Riedel (the other two are flute quartets in D minor and F major copied out by Uhle sometime between 1763 and 1784), all ms copies- there seems to be evidence enough on each that they are copies and not in the composer's hand, it would seem (I don't know what the evidence is, though.)
All Eitner's Biographisch-bibliographisches Quellen-Lexikon says of him is, Known from 2 flute quartets in Dresden (the 2 copied by Uhle; he gives the Ms. number.) Another site, interestingly, gives the dates 1762 – 1836 for Fortunato Riedel. I do not know if that site picked them out of plein air, or ... (one of the flute quartets has been recorded commercially 2003 by La Gioia Köln).
