- Born in Düsseldorf, studied with Fétis and de Bériot among others; became professor in Geneva in 1847. Moved to Boston ca.1856 and became director of the Boston Conservatory of Music. In 1868 played in the Boston premiere (US premiere?) of Beethoven's Triple Concerto, according to the March 14 1868 Dwight’s Journal of Music.
