First Publication 1617 in Nova musices organicae tabulatura
Composer Time Period Renaissance
Piece Style Renaissance
Instrumentation organ (but see below, Comments)

Misc. Comments

  • Published in the collection Nova musices organicae tabulatura, which was an anthology of keyboard music.
  • However, some of the music in that collection was probably intabulated for organ from existing canzonas, either by Woltz or others. This would be particularly true of the Guami canzonas, since Guami wrote only one known organ work, and it was not a canzona.
  • Therefore, the original instrumentation of this is unknown. Tagging has been done for the known published version, and the "und" (undetermined) to cover the original. If it can be positively identified in other collections of Merulo's canzonas, the "und" can be replaced by another tag.
