Preface written March 1920 (so "composition" date also 1920.) Erste bis zehnte Auflage - note - 14th Auflage 1922.

Possibly based on and an expansion of an article Niemann wrote on Brahms published 1904?, "Johannes Brahms als klavier-komponist", for "Die musik", III, 18 (pp.419–434).
