||Based on Flandria ouverture
- According to the composer's nephew, the Flandria ouverture, had been a success at his first performance in the year 1953, after which some performers, friends of Willy Ostijn, asked him to make a transcription. First he made one for clarinet and string orchestra, afterwards for alto sax and string quintet.
- Solo strings only or with string orchestra also? - Schissel
- I believe this score is for string orchestra, not solo strings. The many passages with double notes look like divisi passages to me, not double stops. And the double notes in the viola part in bar 17 are impossible to play as double stops, since both would need to be played on the low C string. - M.J.E.
