Alwilda has several meanings- see Alf and Alfhild, Awilda, for instance. (However, in context, it seems a good if not absolutely definite guess that "A. Beverlin" - the dedicatee - is "Alwilda Beverlin" (born about 1843, Philadelphia, married in 1923, still alive in 1930 census- maybe not in 1940? )
