Misc. Comments
For the 24th Sunday after Trinity.
Commentary on the movements
- [Chorale]1: Ach wie flüchtig, ach wie nichtig. A standard Bach chorale setting, with an imitative vocal texture under the chorale theme in the soprano and independent orchestral parts.
- Aria (Tenor): So schnell ein rauschend Wasser schießt. Flowing scales conjure up the image of the flowing waters. The obbligato is divided evenly between a solo violin and solo flute. Occasionally, they come together in unison.
- Recitativo (Alto): Die Freude wird zur Traurigkeit. Secco recitative.
- Aria (Bass): An irdische Schätze das Herze zu hängen. "The weird death-dance mood is newly awakened when three oboes and continuo strike up in a genuine bourée"1.
- Recitativo (Soprano): Die höchste Herrlichkeit und Pracht. Secco recitative.
- Choral: Ach wie flüchtig, ach wie nichtig. A plain chorale setting.
