History

A-R Editions was founded in 1962 as a publisher of scholarly critical editions. Originally located in Madison, Wisconsin, the firm moved to its present location in Middleton (a suburb of Madison) in the 1990s. The notable series Recent Researches in Music commenced in 1964. Other important series published by A-R include the Collegium Musicum: Yale University (which commenced in 1955 and was subsequently moved to A-R), Music of the United States of America (MUSA) and the Computer Music and Digital Audio Series. Other areas of activity include publications devoted to women composers, facsimiles and music engraving services.
