Navigation etc.

There is no mentions of the instrumentation of this trio, but this is from the third book by Barrière of sonatas for cello and basso continuo, so cello is probably the second instrument. The use of the tenor clef also suggests this. (Other possible instruments like the bass viol and the viola would usually be notated in the alto clef in stead.) Barriere also published a book of sonatas for the pardessus de viole, so the top voice might have been intended for it, but it is playable on most of the usual "dessus" instruments of the time.

Grove mentions the second sonata from book 3 of the cellos sonatas as being for cello duet, like the fourth of book 4. This is clearly a trio sonata as it includes a part in treble clef above the parts in tenor and bass clef.
