Madrigal was published in January 1890 ("Le Ménestrel", 5 Janvier 1890, first page: "we will be publishing next Sunday the new mélodie of Francis Thomé, Madrigal, poetry by Edouard Guinand, followed immediately by La Chanson des Bois" (translating) (I. Philipp, after Chopin, words by Jules Ruelle.)
