Commentary on the movements

  1. Aria (Bass): Es ist euch gut, daß ich hingehe; denn so ich. A quasi-arioso aria with oboe d'amore to the fore. Imitation is suppressed here for the sake of expressive content.
  2. Aria (Tenor): Mich kann kein Zweifel stören. Full of "energetic, wide-ranging figures" for the solo violin1.
  3. Recitativo (Tenor): Dein Geist wird mich also regieren. Secco recitative.
  4. Chorus: Wenn aber jener, der Geist der Wahrheit. A quasi-da capo chorus with three different fugues. D
  5. Aria (Alto): Was mein Herz von dir begehrt. First violin again takes the lead in this beautiuful 6/8 aria.
  6. Choral: Dein Geist, den Gott vom Himmel gibt. A plain chorale setting.
